Government of India G.S.R. 774(E).— In exercise of the powers conferred by clauses (d) and (e) of sub-section (2) of section 24 of the Coinage Act, 2011(11 of 2011) has released a new coin.
In a historic move to celebrate India’s rich legacy of
resistance against colonial rule, the Government of India has officially
notified the issuance of a ₹200 commemorative coin to mark the 200th
anniversary of Rani Channamma’s iconic victory at Kittur.
This announcement was made under G.S.R. 774(E), in
accordance with the powers granted by clauses (d) and (e) of sub-section (2) of
section 24 of the Coinage Act, 2011 (11 of 2011).

Historical Significance:
Rani Channamma of Kittur was one of the earliest
Indian rulers to defy British colonial authority. Her courageous stand in 1824
against the Doctrine of Lapse and British annexation policies made her a symbol
of resistance and patriotism. The issuance of this commemorative coin serves as
a tribute to her enduring legacy and the spirit of India’s freedom struggle.
