Since this guide was written, Windows 11 has moved on, and readers have asked about the newest version, ISOs for ARM laptops, and how to be sure a downloaded ISO is genuine. Here is what applies in October 2026.
Which Windows 11 version the ISO contains
Windows 11 version 26H2 began rolling out on September 29, 2026. Microsoft's download page always offers the newest version it has published as an ISO, and it updates the page some time after a new version starts rolling out, so for a short period the ISO may still be the previous version, 25H2. Either is fine for a clean installation: Windows Update brings the PC to the newest version afterward. The version is shown on the download page next to the edition, and after installation, winver confirms it.
ISOs for ARM64 laptops
Laptops with Snapdragon and other ARM processors need the Arm64 version of Windows 11, not the usual x64 ISO. Microsoft offers a separate Windows 11 Arm64 ISO download for these PCs. Using the wrong one simply fails to boot. Check your processor in Settings, System, About: a Snapdragon processor means you need Arm64.
Check that your ISO is genuine
The download page has SHA-256 hashes for each ISO, under a link to verify your download. After downloading, open PowerShell in your Downloads folder and run Get-FileHash .\yourfile.iso -Algorithm SHA256, replacing the file name, and compare the result with Microsoft's value for your language and edition.
